Map 6 - Mansfield Area - Jonesville, Stowe, Johnson
Trail Tips:
Between the Appalachian Gap and Roundtop Shelter just north of Johnson, you will be traversing Camels Hump and Mount Mansfield. Both mountains are popular destinations with day hikers. Both mountains contain very fragile alpine vegetation at their summits so please stay on the proper path. if you are hikign with your canine friend, please keep him or her on a leash through these fragile areas.
Primitive off trail camping is not allowed north of Mount Ellen to Bamroth Ride Shelter.
Off trail camping is allowed below 2500 feet between Bamforth Ridge Shelter and the Lamoille River just north of Mount Mansfield. Above 2500 feet you may only stay in the shelters unless a shelter is filled to capacity. Then you may tent camp at the shelter site.
Jonesville - Richmond - Waterbury
At Bamforth Ridge you have three options for re-supply or for a town stop. Waterbury is 7 miles to the east. Jonesville is literally on the trail and Richmond is 3 miles to the west. You can take your pick of where to go but below we will highlight the important services available in these 3 towns. Also, Burlington is 15 miles west with anything and everything.

What's in Waterbury?

Stowe

As you can see by the map above, Stowe has a great many options available to the end to end hiker. The drawback to Stowe is that it is 8 miles off trail from Mount Mansfield. there is a taxi service available though that will shuttle hikers from the trailhead.
