2009 Shelter Updates

  1. Montclair Glen - Renovations expected to be completed by Memorial Day
  2. Jay Camp - Shelter is still open as it has a roof, work to continue and be completed this summer
  3. Watson Camp - Closed
  4. Lost Pond - Rebuid this year
  5. Greenwall, Governor Clement, Tucker Johnson - Roof repiars during 2009 -  Expect to see this work around July time frame, be prepared for alternate shelter

 

Cooley Glen Shelter
Emily Protctor Shelter to Cooley Glen Shelter - 5.7 Miles
Cooley Glen Shelter to Battell Shelter - 6.5 Miles

The Cooley Glen shelter was built by the US Forest service in 1965. It is a frame lean-to with space for 8 people. the water source is a stream about 600 feet west on the Cooley Glen Trail.

As with all shelters and camps on the Long Trail, please practice Leave No Trace principles and obey all rules posted in the cabins or shelters.

Fee Shelters

The following is a list of shelters that require overnight fees: Fees are $5.00 per night. If a caretaker doesn't show up, please send your fees into the Green Mountain Club. The fees help to maintain the shelters, privvies and caretakers salaries during the hiking season.
