2009 Shelter Updates

  1. Montclair Glen - Renovations expected to be completed by Memorial Day
  2. Jay Camp - Shelter is still open as it has a roof, work to continue and be completed this summer
  3. Watson Camp - Closed
  4. Lost Pond - Rebuid this year
  5. Greenwall, Governor Clement, Tucker Johnson - Roof repiars during 2009 -  Expect to see this work around July time frame, be prepared for alternate shelter

 

Lula Tye Shelter
Big Branch Shelter to Lula Tye Shelter - 3.0 Miles
Lula Tye Shelter to Little Rock Pond Shelter - 0.7 Miles

The Lula Tye Shelter sits on a puncheon filled spur about 100 feet uphill from the Long Trail. The shelter was built in 1962 and is a frame lean-to with space for 8. Water source is a small brook further north on the LT or Little Rock Pond. There is an overnight fee and a caretaker is in residence during the hiking season.

As with all shelters and camps on the Long Trail, please practice Leave No Trace principles and obey all rules posted in the cabins or shelters.

Fee Shelters

The following is a list of shelters that require overnight fees: Fees are $5.00 per night. If a caretaker doesn't show up, please send your fees into the Green Mountain Club. The fees help to maintain the shelters, privvies and caretakers salaries during the hiking season.
