Seth Warner Shelter
Pine Cobble Trailhead to Seth Warner Shelter - 6.1 Miles
Seth Warner Shelter to Congdon Shelter - 7.2 Miles

The Seth Warner shelter for many people is their first stop on their Long Trail thru hike. The shelter is a framed lean-to built in 1968 with space for 8 people. It is located .2 miles on a spur off the Long Trail and is well marked with white signs in both directions. There is a stream about 400 feet south shelter that serves as the water source. There is a large clearing just north of the shelter that is good for tenting. From the water source to the trail junction is usually a good spot for picking firewood as there is a fire ring and cooking grate in front of the shelter. Be warned that in the summertime, occasional ATV and motorcycle noise from nearby private property can invade your sense of stillness.

WARNING: In the 2007 and 2008 seasons a Black bear has been known to visit the shelter. Please use proper food bagging and hanging techniques.

As with all shelters and camps on the Long Trail, please practice Leave No Trace principles and obey all rules posted in the cabins or shelters.

Fee Shelters
written by GP, June 24, 2009
I updated my E2E's guide with all the new fee shelters that were not listed as such in 2007. Vermont must be preparing hikers for the huts in the White's. What happened to all the volunteer's? The Green Mtn. Club should call some up from Tenn. 11 in all mmmm....staelth camping sounds more promising.

Some bear activity at SW this year, for sure. Heard from several different hikers that bears had gotten hikers' food. Be careful!

Bear Box!
written by Ryan, July 22, 2009
GMC Trail Crew just put a Jobox near the shelter to store food safe from animals. I haven't been there in person, but the supervisor of the trail crews just told me this. Make sure you find that box and put your food in there!
