2009 Shelter Updates

  1. Montclair Glen - Renovations expected to be completed by Memorial Day
  2. Jay Camp - Shelter is still open as it has a roof, work to continue and be completed this summer
  3. Watson Camp - Closed
  4. Lost Pond - Rebuid this year
  5. Greenwall, Governor Clement, Tucker Johnson - Roof repiars during 2009 -  Expect to see this work around July time frame, be prepared for alternate shelter

 

Duck Brook Shelter
Bamforth Ridge Shelter to Duck Brook Shelter - 7.6 Miles
Duck Brook Shelter to Buchanan Shelter - 5.6 Miles

The Duck Brook Shelter was built in 1966 and has space for 12. The water source is Duck brook which is in a deep ravine below the shelter. The Duck Brook Shelter is just north of Interstate 89 and Jonesville, VT making it an ideal place to re-supply from a Post Office drop and take a zero day if needed.

As with all shelters and camps on the Long Trail, please practice Leave No Trace principles and obey all rules posted in the cabins or shelters.

Fee Shelters

The following is a list of shelters that require overnight fees: Fees are $5.00 per night. If a caretaker doesn't show up, please send your fees into the Green Mountain Club. The fees help to maintain the shelters, privvies and caretakers salaries during the hiking season.
